Volac is one of the major demons in hell; he is considered the high president of the underworld and commands thirty legions of demons –for some other authors he commands thirty-eight legions of demons- ready to anything to please him. About his appearance he presents to the mortals as a beautiful child with a pair of wings that remind the angel’s ones, he is always riding a dragon with two heads.
Although many know him as Volac there are many names that are used indistinctively while talking about him, those names are Valac, Valax, Valak, Vali, Volak, Valek, Mutelanjelo, and Muteliki.
One thing that is characteristic of Volac is that he can tell you the positions of every planet; and give accurate answers about the position of hidden treasures. He can also tell where to find any kind of serpent, if the magician will use one of them. He has the spells required to locate, control, and summon any kind of serpent and use them as a weapon when he feels threatened.
The best days to make contact with him are between December 3 and December 11 in the late-night, his direction is West, its color is orange, its plant the sesame, and he’s also related to the Sagittarius zodiac sign. The planet related to him is mercury as well as his metal, his element is both water and earth, and his favorite incense is the storax.
Because of his divination powers he is one of the most summoned demons, people looking for treasures or certain objects tend to invoke him, what they do not know is that sometimes they can find terrible destinies by following his instructions.
During the 1200s, it is said that Volac inspired two youthful men named Nicholas of the Rhineland and Stephan of Cloyes from Germany and France respectively to lead the children’s crusades that end with many of these children captured and sold as slaves. There is another story related to Volac and the missing of children in a village called Hamelin in Germany, where the Major made a contract with an exterminator to kill all the rats of the village, then Volac told the Major not to pay the debt and the exterminator in a rage made disappear hundreds of children. In the 1800s, Volac is also named in many stories as the major reason why many trips and adventures finished in failure.
As you can see, there are two ways that invoking him will end, sometimes if you are worthy of summoning him he will share his strength with you and tell you what you want to know, but if you are not worthy of invoking him, he will destroy your whole existence
Some books and grimoires that talk over Volac
He appears in many demonology books where he is located in the rank of prince, some of these grimoires are the lesser key of Solomon, the Pseudomonarchia Deaemonum written by Johann Weyer, The discovery of witchcraft and the Book of Oberon for example.
In the Lesser Key of Solomon this demon is listed as the 62nd demon in the version of Rudd and is listed 49th in the Weyer’s version, what it is interesting about the two versions is that in both of them, this demon has amazing powers. Overall, the divination gift that will tell precisely where treasures are even planets at any time, just as he does with the snakes and is even capable of summoning them. Also in both versions, he is commanding thirty legions of demons which is an enormous amount of demons. That can only tell to us about his tremendous power.
Another book that talks specifically about Volac is the Munich Burnich in this grimoire the author says he is commanding not thirty, but twenty-seven legions of demons and spirits which is impressive anyway.
He has some similarities with other demons
He has similarities with a demon named Doolas, which is mentioned in the book Oficcium Spirituum, they both have angel’s wings, and are presented in the form of a young child. Doolas also has the power to control and summon serpents and can give these powers to the person capable of summoning him, but also to household spirits. However, the major difference between these two is that Doolas in the hierarchy is a prince, while Volac is treated as a high president. In this book, Doolas is ranked as the 25th demon in the hierarchy and it is said that he commands twenty legions of demons.
He also has similarities with the Fifty-sixth demon of The Lesser Key of Solomon named Gremory, this demon can also tell where the treasures are hidden with huge precision, and his divination magic is his chief power. They even command a similar quantity of legions because Gremory commands twenty-six of them.
Another one with this divination skill, but with more power because he commands seventy-two legions, is Asmodeus. This demon is one of the most powerful ones and they consider him a prince of hell. Just like Volac he can tell you the location of every item in the world and has vast knowledge over astronomy knowing this way the location of the planets as well.
How Volac is immersed in the popular culture
This demon has been gaining popularity over the years thanks to the popular culture.
Some movies like the 1998s Vampires featured a character named Valek as the chief and first vampire on earth, remembering that this name is also attributed to Volac.
In the 2016s terror movie The Conjuring 2, we can meet this demon as the main villain. There he took the form of a terrible nun who would make anything to terrify and kill its victims. It is interesting that in this film, they also relate this demon to the snakes and possession of human beings as they describe it in the grimoires.
There you have one of the most powerful and mentioned demons of hell. His powers of divination and strength are his principal features.
