The Great Wicca Book of Spells
Many Wicca practitioners were considered great leaders and healers of the shaman community, recommending people to become key parts of societies as they knew that humanity was not superior to nature.
In Wicca, spells are a group of words that are not necessarily spoken, but you can make spells by singing in your mind. Wiccans know that their religion is a way of life or a belief system characterized by the reconstruction of pre-Christian traditions, originating in Wales, Ireland, and Scotland.
Over the years, Wiccan traditions have been documented in books so that they may pre-exist in the future, both their way of life and their spells, rituals, festivities, etc. Currently, there is an infinite number of books where we can find the spells that we practice in Wicca where we can find out what each of the spells is for, how to do them, etc.
Among the books we have those of Silver ravenwolf who is an American author of the new age, magic and witchcraft focused on Wicca, she has more than 17 books of Wicca and paganism. In general, these books are full of infinite concepts about everything that Wicca refers to from how to start in religion, stories, potions and spells. Mentioning his books the main ones for spells are:
- American Folk Magick: Charms, Spells, and Herbals (1999).
- HedgeWitch: Spells, Crafts, and Ritual For Natural Magick (2008).
- Silver's Spells for Abundance (2004).
- Halloween: Spells, Recipes, and Customs (1999).
- Silver's Spells for love (2001).
- Silver's Spells for Protection (2000).
They are one of many books by the author Silver Ravenwolf. One of the disadvantages of Ravenwolf's books may be that she wants to cover too many topics in her books, which does not go into much depth in her research.
Raymond Buckland was an English writer and a significant figure in the history of Wicca. According to his works, he was the first person in the United States to claim to practice Wicca. With more than 45 books under his authorship, one of the most outstanding was the Wicca Practices and Principles of Witchcraft, also known by many as “the book of the tree”. It is a book in the Seax-Wicca tradition that focuses on the symbolism of Anglo-Saxon paganism.
It is a very complete book or manual dealing with several basic topics becoming a must-have book, being one of the best-selling books in the Wicca religion, it talks about beliefs, history, philosophy, how to build your own tools, Wiccan attire, initiation, meditation, rituals, and spells.
Doreen Valiente, author of “The Witchcraft of the Future”, talks about gods, tools for the practice of Wicca, how to draw the circle, talks a lot about the festivities and costumes of the witches, Sabbats, and Esbbats. It also has an appendix or a section on how we should do the rituals and spells done by Doreen Valiente. This author was one of the creators of the Wicca with Gerald Gardner becoming a quite important figure among the Wiccans and for the whole neopagan movement, so much so that Doreen Valiente is considered the mother of the Wicca religion.
Scott Cunningham is an American writer who has written many books on Wicca and some other religions. “Wicca: a guide for individual practice” is one of the most popular books of this author, this book is a practical guide for everyone who seeks to integrate into the Wiccan religion, sharing on a personal level his experience in Wicca with emphasis on those practitioners who work alone. Its practices, rituals, spells are adapted to make it one person, including in its content a self-dedication ritual that few books bring and that is extremely important in the practice of Wicca.
Scott believes that you only need to really want to practice this religion for the gods to provide the resources and energy needed to practice the rituals and spells well, explaining them in a very easy way to understand.
Gerald Gardner writer from England, was a royal sorcerer and very famous indeed. He is cataloged as the founder of modern Wicca, despite being very famous others consider him infamous. Creator of the books “Witchcraft Today” and “The Meaning of Witchcraft” written in the 1950s, inspired the development and growth of Wiccan traditions that exist today.
In his book “Witchcraft Today” he reflects theories related mainly to the actions of witches on witchcraft. He talks about the nature of the gods, mainly the cuckolded god called Cernunnos, and what witchcraft means. It also talks about what spells and rituals are practiced in Wicca.
The book of shadows is also a text written by Gerald Gardner where he added a series of parts of texts that originate in the time of the bonfires, in addition to contributions that Doreen Valiente added. This book is not only based on the practices of Wicca and rituals that are performed in the Wiccan tradition. It focuses on the fact that each coven contains its own model of the Book of Shadows which must be copied by hand with the knowledge and learning of each of the practitioners to be used in a group or individually if the owner of the book wishes.
“The Book of Shadows” contains spells based on the experiences of the characters in the classics as well as the authors. This book carries the principles of Wicca, special dates of the festivities. For each individual Wicca ritual and practice, it is indispensable that the covens have their Book of Shadows. In many books of the leftovers, it is spoken about the bad perception of the witches in the society. They write down the date on which spells, rituals, potions can or will be used to apply them in their life or that of others.
Previous books are only some of the best known and most recent books on Wiccan spells. However, there are many more books where you can find the history of each of these spells and see if they really have any effect. After all, many people do not live this religion 100%, and in fact, there are those who avoid the use of spells, even though they have always been there.
